Loyd "Rock" Rockhold served in the Marine Corps in World War II as a master tech sergeant and later earned his civil engineering degree from Louisiana State University in 1947. His philanthropy was directed toward education and improving the lives of children, particularly those with developmental disabilities. He founded the Special Children's Foundation in 1975. Installed at the Picard Center for Child Development and Lifelong Learning, which he was instrumental in establishing.
